House Speaker Mike Johnson is calling out the U.S. intelligence community for its inaction against Iranian hackers who attempted to disseminate private information from former President Donald Trump’s campaign. Johnson wrote letters to the FBI, the Director of National Intelligence, and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, expressing outrage at the Biden-Harris Administration’s failure to hold Iran accountable for its cyberattacks on the Trump campaign. He claimed that Iran hacked into the Trump campaign and distributed private information directly to the Biden campaign and American media that favored Kamala Harris.

The three agencies released a rare joint statement last week, acknowledging that “Iranian malicious cyber actors” sent stolen Trump campaign materials to individuals linked to President Biden’s re-election campaign and U.S. media organizations. Johnson believes that several unanswered questions remain and demanded that the American people be informed of how the cyberattacks and distribution of information occurred, the timeline of the attacks, and the steps taken to deter future attacks. He criticized the Biden administration for failing to deter election interference efforts by Iran and other hostile foreign powers.

Johnson accused the Biden administration of not offering or executing any meaningful action to demonstrate that interference will not be tolerated and failing to share any steps taken to prevent future attacks on Donald Trump or his campaign. He called for more action to protect the nation’s sovereignty and prevent Iran from influencing the election in favor of its preferred candidate. The agencies were given a deadline of Oct. 4, roughly a month before Election Day, to provide answers. Reports have surfaced that the Justice Department and FBI are planning to file criminal charges against those involved in the Trump campaign hack.

FBI Director Christopher Wray warned earlier this year that foreign adversaries posed a threat to the U.S. having “free and fair elections.” He emphasized that the U.S. will face more adversaries moving at a faster pace and enabled by new technology during the election cycle. This highlights the importance of addressing foreign malign influence threats to protect the integrity of the democratic process. Fox News Digital reached out to the Harris campaign, the FBI, CISA, and the DNI for comment on these developments, but responses are awaited.

The incident with Iranian hackers targeting the Trump campaign and distributing private information to the Biden campaign and media outlets raises concerns about election interference and cybersecurity threats. Johnson’s efforts to hold the U.S. intelligence community accountable for its response to these cyberattacks shed light on the need for transparency and decisive action to protect against future attacks. The accusations against Iran and the lack of sufficient action by the Biden administration underscore the challenges faced in safeguarding election integrity and preventing foreign influence in the electoral process. Efforts to address these issues and strengthen cybersecurity measures are critical in maintaining the democratic principles of free and fair elections.

The involvement of foreign actors in attempting to sway election outcomes through cyberattacks is a significant national security threat that must be addressed promptly and effectively. The accusations of Iran targeting the Trump campaign and favoring Kamala Harris as a candidate underscore the complex dynamics of foreign interference in U.S. elections. The demands for accountability from Johnson and the urgency of the situation, with only weeks left before Election Day, highlight the need for swift action to safeguard the democratic process and prevent external actors from manipulating election outcomes. Efforts to enhance cybersecurity measures and deter foreign interference are crucial in ensuring the integrity of the electoral system and upholding the principles of democracy in the face of evolving security threats.
