Vice President Kamala Harris recently criticized former President Trump at a rally in Erie, Pennsylvania, drawing parallels between his agenda and that of the conservative Project 2025 initiative. The crowd at the rally erupted in chants of “lock him up,” reminiscent of the 2016 White House race. Harris played a mashup of clips in which Trump warned of dangers from “the enemy within,” stating that those who do not support him are considered enemies of the country.
In response to Harris’ comments, Trump spoke about his critics, referring to them as “lunatics” and singling out Congressman Adam Schiff. Trump also expressed concerns about dealing with China and Russia but said that internal opponents, such as journalists critical of him, may be more difficult to handle. Harris raised concerns about Trump using the military to target groups, including those he clashes with or judges that rule against his will, and warned that voting for Trump would be a “huge risk for America.”
The Trump campaign pushed back against Harris’ warnings, accusing the Harris-Biden administration of weaponizing the justice system to go after political rivals, including President Trump. Pennsylvania Team Trump spokesman Kush Desai stated that if Harris is concerned about abuse of power, she should look in the mirror. Harris also addressed the Supreme Court’s ruling in Trump’s favor regarding presidential immunity, leading to chants of “lock him up” at the rally. Harris urged the crowd to make their voice heard at the ballot box, emphasizing the importance of the upcoming election.
Prior to the rally, Harris made a stop at a local business and was greeted by Democratic Mayor Joe Schember and State Rep. Ryan Bizzarro. Senator John Fetterman gave a warm-up speech, and Harris was introduced by Karen Kalivoda, a retired civil servant and Erie native. Meanwhile, Trump participated in a Pennsylvania town hall hosted by South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem near King of Prussia. Harris’ remarks and the reaction from the crowd in Erie highlighted the divisiveness and political tensions surrounding the upcoming election.
Harris emphasized the importance of the election and the need to prevent anyone who threatens the Constitution from holding the office of President. She urged voters to make their voices heard in November. The contrasting events involving Harris and Trump in Pennsylvania underscored the deep political divide in the country and the high stakes of the upcoming election. Harris’ criticisms of Trump and her warnings about the potential consequences of his actions resonated with supporters at the rally, while the Trump campaign dismissed her concerns and accused her administration of abusing power.
