Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg released statements expressing their condolences after a pedestrian was killed and golfer Scottie Scheffler was arrested before the second round of the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Course. Beshear stated that he was praying for the victim of the crash and emphasized that the events that followed were a result of this tragic incident. Greenberg identified the victim as John Mills and sent his condolences to his family, focusing on the tragic loss of life.

The morning at Valhalla Golf Course began with a pedestrian being struck by a shuttle bus dedicated to tournament traffic. The victim, a worker with one of the PGA of America’s vendors, was pronounced dead at the scene, leading to an outpouring of condolences from the organization. Scheffler, a participant in the tournament, was then arrested after an incident with a Louisville Metro Police officer. He was driving a vehicle marked as a PGA Championship vehicle when the incident occurred, leading to charges including second-degree assault of a police officer.

Scheffler’s arrest was captured on video, showing him being handcuffed and placed in the back of a police car, expressing confusion and asking for help. His attorney stated that he did not intentionally do anything wrong and was simply following directions in a marked vehicle with credentials. Despite the arrest, Scheffler was able to make it back in time for his second-round tee times. The legal process surrounding his charges, including criminal mischief and reckless driving, will proceed, with the investigation ongoing.

Both Beshear and Greenberg expressed sadness over the tragic incident and emphasized the need for a resolution for all parties involved. LMPD stopped traffic to conduct an investigation into the fatal accident, while also looking into the incident involving Scheffler. The focus remained on the family of John Mills, the victim who lost his life in the accident. More information will be shared as it becomes available, highlighting the efforts to address the tragic loss of life and the ongoing investigations into related incidents.

The PGA of America extended its sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim, acknowledging the heartbreaking nature of the tragedy. The organization was devastated by the loss of a worker with one of its vendors and expressed sympathy for those affected. The incident involving Scheffler, while unfortunate, resulted in charges and legal proceedings, with the golfer booked into the Louisville Department of Corrections. Despite the challenges and confusion surrounding the events, efforts were made to address the tragic loss of life and ensure that all parties involved received the necessary support.
