Rudy Giuliani has agreed to never publicly accuse two Georgia election workers of tampering with votes in the 2020 election again. This agreement comes after a yearslong battle with Ruby Freeman and her daughter, Shaye Moss. The women now have the power to hold Giuliani accountable if he repeats false accusations against them. The agreement states that Giuliani is permanently enjoined from making statements that suggest the women engaged in wrongdoing during the presidential election. This prevents him from profiting off lies about the election workers.

Freeman and Moss have previously sued Giuliani for defamation and won a $148 million judgment against him, which he has not yet paid. The trial provided insight into the harassment election workers faced due to false claims spread by prominent Trump supporters. Giuliani is also facing criminal charges in Georgia and Arizona for his actions in support of Trump’s campaign. He has pleaded not guilty in both cases and is currently under Chapter 11 personal bankruptcy, with Freeman, Moss, and others pursuing his assets.

Giuliani’s agreement with Freeman and Moss must still be approved by a federal judge. Beryl Howell, who oversaw Giuliani’s defamation trial, has the authority to take any necessary steps to prevent him from potentially defaming the women in the future. The agreement includes the dismissal of a second lawsuit filed by Freeman and Moss against Giuliani after he continued to make false statements about them following the original judgment. Giuliani’s spokesperson has not yet commented on the agreement.

The agreement effectively ends Giuliani’s ability to profit off lies about the election workers. It gives Freeman and Moss the legal power to take him to court immediately if he makes defamatory statements about them. Giuliani’s legal troubles also include criminal charges in Georgia and Arizona related to his actions in support of Trump’s campaign. Despite these challenges, he has maintained his innocence and is fighting the charges against him. The federal judge overseeing his defamation trial has the authority to intervene if Giuliani violates the terms of the agreement.
