Retired U.S. Army Sergeant Joshua Hargis, a decorated Army Ranger and K9 handler, received a mortgage-free custom home in Nashville, Tennessee thanks to the generosity of LP Building Solutions and the Gary Sinise Foundation. Hargis served four tours in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom and sustained severe injuries during his final deployment. LP Building Solutions donated trim and siding, as well as financial support through their LP Foundation. The LP Foundation has partnered with the Gary Sinise Foundation since 2022 to donate eight homes so far to veterans in-need, each customized for the family. The home is designed to meet Hargis’ special needs as a double amputee, providing him and his family with a forever home.

The Gary Sinise Foundation’s R.I.S.E. (Restoring Independence Supporting Empowerment) program works to provide custom-built homes to disabled veterans in need, while LP Building Solutions has been a proud partner in this effort. LP’s Vice President of Specialty Sales & Marketing, Craig Sichling, spoke about the partnership and the dedication of the home to the Hargis family. Hargis, a graduate of the Army Ranger School and trained K9 handler, shared the story of the night raid in 2013 that resulted in catastrophic injuries for himself and his team. He lost both legs as a result of injuries sustained from buried IEDs during the mission, with his K9 companion also being killed. The donation of the custom home to the Hargis family was a powerful and moving experience for all involved.

LP Building Solutions sees their partnership with the Gary Sinise Foundation as a way to honor and support the veterans who have sacrificed so much for their country. By providing mortgage-free forever homes to veterans like Hargis, they aim to address the shortage of housing for wounded veterans and support sustainability in America. Veterans make up a small percentage of the population but a disproportionately high percentage of the homeless population, highlighting the importance of initiatives like the R.I.S.E. program.
