Former Vatican leader Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, who was excommunicated earlier this year, has urged Catholics to support former President Trump in the upcoming election, warning that Vice President Harris will build a “ferocious dictatorship” if elected. In an open letter to American Catholics, Vigano stated that Trump is the only choice, arguing that voting for Harris is morally unacceptable and constitutes a grave sin. He believes that the election is a choice between democracy and dictatorship, freedom and slavery, and that Trump aims to protect the fundamental freedoms of citizens. Vigano accused Harris of being an “infernal monster” who obeys Satan, and claimed that in her America, Catholics and Protestants would be considered fundamentalists to be marginalized and eliminated.

Vigano described Trump’s America as a place where every Catholic can practice their faith and educate their children without interference from the State. In contrast, he believes that Harris’ America will lead to invasion and moral, social, and economic destruction, creating the most ferocious dictatorship. Vigano painted a bleak picture of American cities under the Biden-Harris administration, describing them as dumps filled with derelicts, criminals, drug dealers, addicts, prostitutes, and robbers, with schools becoming dens of indoctrination and corruption starting from kindergarten. He also accused Harris of being a “puppet” of former President Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and liberal megadonor George Soros.

Vigano argued that Trump is committed to freeing America from the so-called “deep state” and criticized Harris as being a tool of the establishment. He believes that Trump’s America can become great and prosperous, while Harris’ America is destined for invasion and destruction. Vigano served as the Vatican’s ambassador to the United States from 2011 to 2016, but was found guilty of schism and excommunicated from the Catholic Church in July after intense disagreements with Pope Francis. Schism is defined as withdrawing submission to the pope or communion with Catholics who are subject to him.

Catholic voters historically supported Democrats until the 1960s and early 1970s, but today they are evenly split between the two parties. The majority of Catholic voters tend to determine which party wins the White House. Vigano’s letter urging Catholics to back Trump in the election highlights the intense political polarization within the Catholic community. It also underscores the importance of religion in influencing political beliefs and voting preferences. Trump’s commitment to protecting fundamental freedoms and freeing America from its perceived oppressors resonates with Vigano and other supporters who fear the consequences of a potential Harris presidency.
