The BuzzFeed Community recently asked nannies and babysitters to share the wildest, weirdest, or worst thing they ever witnessed a parent do or say while working for them. Some of the stories included parents who were divorced and forbade any mention of divorce, a child drinking out of a water bowl that had been pooped in by dogs, a family with a strict ‘no games’ rule, parents coming home drunk and tipping the babysitter with wads of cash, and parents who left porn and sex toys lying around for everyone to see.
Other stories included a wealthy family who didn’t have any diapers and had to use a towel on their toddler, a mom who took poop out of her child’s diaper with her bare hands, a family that asked the nanny to spank their children, and a dad who made inappropriate comments to the nanny. One nanny walked in on a threesome, another was asked to buy cigarettes and vodka for a pregnant mom, and one witnessed a lavish birthday party for a 7-year-old that resembled a wedding reception.
One nanny had to deal with kids peeing in the bath, including one incident where a 7-year-old peed in a 5-year-old’s face, with the parents brushing it off as a common occurrence. Another nanny was not allowed to eat anywhere that wasn’t on an approved list after a child threw up, and then had to deal with constipated kids after the parents fed them candy all day. And one nanny had to clean up glass from a shattered light fixture after the dad decided to practice his golf swing in the living room and blamed the mom for not being ready on time.
Overall, the stories shared by nannies and babysitters ranged from bizarre and shocking to uncomfortable and disturbing. It’s clear that some parents have questionable behavior and expectations when it comes to childcare, making for some unforgettable and unbelievable experiences for the childcare professionals involved.
