Former Michigan football staffer Connor Stalions is the focus of an investigation involving an off-campus scouting and sign-stealing operation. He was suspended by the school in October and resigned a month later. Stalions has now been named defensive coordinator at Detroit Mumford High School. Michigan’s head coach Sherrone Moore and others from the national championship team have been accused of violating NCAA rules in a draft of the NCAA’s notice of allegations, with Moore potentially facing a suspension and show-cause penalty for allegedly deleting text messages with Stalions related to the sign-stealing scheme.

The NCAA has also issued a four-year show-cause order for former Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh for impermissible contact with recruits and players during the COVID-19 restricted period. Harbaugh was found to have engaged in unethical conduct, failed to promote an atmosphere of compliance, and violated head coach responsibility obligations. Michigan faced probation, fines, and recruiting limits as part of a negotiated resolution in the case. Stalions and Harbaugh may both potentially face Level I violations for their involvement in the sign-stealing scandal.

Stalions will share his side of the story in the documentary “Untold: Sign Stealer” on Netflix, which is set to debut on August 27. The documentary will shed light on the events surrounding the sign-stealing scandal involving Stalions and others at Michigan football. The scandal has brought negative attention to the university and the football program, and has resulted in disciplinary actions against staff members involved. The investigation into the off-campus operation is ongoing, with potential consequences for those implicated in violating NCAA rules.

The NOA draft alleged that Moore deleted text messages with Stalions on the day news of the sign-stealing scheme broke, leading to suspicions of a cover-up. Stalions was also found to have worn Central Michigan gear and obtained a sideline pass during a game against Michigan State in 2023. Both Stalions and Harbaugh face potential sanctions for their roles in the misconduct. The penalties issued by the NCAA aim to maintain the integrity of college sports and hold staff members accountable for their actions in violating rules and regulations.

With Stalions now coaching at Detroit Mumford High School, the scandal has had repercussions beyond just the Michigan football program. The involvement of high school staff members in off-campus scouting and sign-stealing operations raises questions about ethics and integrity in sports at various levels. The documentary on Netflix will provide further insight into the scandal and the consequences faced by those involved. The situation serves as a cautionary tale for those involved in college sports, highlighting the importance of following NCAA rules and regulations to maintain the integrity of the game.
