Florida man Neal Brij Sidhwaney was sentenced to 14 months in prison for threatening to kill Chief Justice John Roberts last year. Sidhwaney pleaded guilty to transmitting an interstate threat to kill and faced up to five years in federal prison. In addition to his prison sentence, he was also sentenced to three years of supervised release.

Sidhwaney called the Supreme Court on July 31 and left a threatening voicemail message for a member of the high court, according to a Justice Department news release. Although the department did not specify which justice was targeted, online court documents revealed that the threat was made against Chief Justice John Roberts. A competency assessment of Sidhwaney filed with a federal court in Florida confirmed the threat against Roberts.

In a separate case, a California man named Nicholas Roske has been charged with attempting to murder Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Roske pleaded not guilty and was arrested near Kavanaugh’s home outside of Washington, DC with a bag containing a gun and burglary tools. His attorneys have indicated that they are discussing a pretrial resolution with prosecutors.

It is unclear who was representing Sidhwaney in court or if they have made any statements regarding the case. The threat against Chief Justice Roberts is a serious matter that resulted in a significant prison sentence for Sidhwaney. In the case of Nicholas Roske, the details of the attempted murder plot against Justice Kavanaugh are still being investigated.

The threats against high-profile public figures such as Supreme Court justices are concerning and should be taken seriously by law enforcement authorities. The cases of Sidhwaney and Roske highlight the importance of security measures to protect public officials from potential harm. It remains to be seen how these cases will be resolved in court and what further actions will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The involvement of law enforcement and the justice system in handling threats against public figures demonstrates the commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety of individuals in positions of authority. The legal proceedings in the cases of Sidhwaney and Roske will serve as examples of the consequences individuals may face for making threats against public officials. The ultimate goal is to prevent such incidents from occurring and to maintain a safe and secure environment for those in positions of leadership.
