Hoang Van Ty of Thai Nguyen province expressed shock at the depth of flooding in his home, with belongings such as clothes and furniture submerged. The area is also home to Samsung Electronics’ largest smartphone manufacturing plant in Vietnam. While some parts of the province have seen receding flood waters, clean-up efforts are underway. More than 200,000 hectares of rice and cash crop fields have been affected by landslides and floods.

In addition to the devastation in Vietnam, neighboring countries such as Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar have also been impacted by flooding caused by Typhoon Yagi. The Mekong River Commission issued a flood warning for the city of Luang Prabang in Laos, which is a UNESCO world heritage site. In Thailand, the death toll has risen to eight, with additional deaths reported from a landslide in Chiang Mai province. Mae Sai district, on the border with Myanmar, is experiencing its worst floods in 80 years, according to a senior interior ministry official.

The typhoon has caused disruptions in power supplies and damaged factories in various provinces of Vietnam, including Haiphong and Quang Ninh. This has led to a halt in production in these areas. Several countries, including Australia, Japan, and the United States, have announced plans to send aid to Vietnam in response to the widespread devastation caused by the typhoon. The disaster management agency in Vietnam has been working to assess the damage and provide assistance to those affected.

As clean-up efforts continue in Thai Nguyen province and other affected areas, the focus is on rebuilding and restoring normalcy after the destructive impact of the typhoon. The floods have submerged homes, destroyed crops, and disrupted daily life for many residents in the region. However, with support from both domestic agencies and international aid, efforts are being made to help those affected recover from the aftermath of the disaster. The resilience of the communities affected by Typhoon Yagi is evident as they work together to overcome the challenges posed by the floods.
