Fletcher Cox recently announced that the 2023 NFL season would be his last, despite still performing at a high level. Cox had a successful year in 2022, playing in 15 games and recording 5.0 sacks and 17 quarterback hits. However, he felt that his time was up and that practice and meetings had started to feel like just a job. Despite knowing it was time to retire, he has zero regrets about his decision and is enjoying a well-deserved vacation in the Bahamas. Even though he is no longer playing, Cox will still be involved with the Philadelphia Eagles in September as he partners with Bud Light to hand out special “Philly Philly” cans at a bar in the Philadelphia Sports Complex.

Cox may be missing out on the Eagles’ season opener in Rio against the Green Bay Packers, but he believes it is for the best as he would have been grumpy about missing such an event. He did, however, play in England in 2018 just a few months after winning the Super Bowl. Despite a disappointing ending to the previous season for the Eagles, with six losses in their final seven games, Cox expects the team to have a solid outcome in the upcoming season. He anticipates the team to come out strong, dominate, and be an exciting one to watch throughout the season, acknowledging that there will be highs and lows but emphasizing the importance of maintaining a positive attitude regardless of the outcome.

Even in retirement, Cox continues to stay connected to the Eagles and their fans. He looks forward to celebrating with his former teammates and fans at the Xfinity Live! bar in Philadelphia for the home opener game. He expresses excitement at being able to enjoy the fun atmosphere and share in the excitement with the fans. Cox will be handing out special Bud Light cans commemorating the infamous “Philly Philly” trick play from Super Bowl LII. Despite not being on the field, he is thrilled to be part of the celebration and to have the opportunity to interact with the fans.

Reflecting on his decision to retire, Cox remains confident that it was the right choice for him. He mentions that he was dealing with various injuries and felt that his body was telling him it was time to step away from the game. Cox feels that he left the game on his own terms and with no regrets, acknowledging that while he still had the ability to play at a high level, he knew it was time to move on. He is now focused on taking care of his mind and body, enjoying time with his family, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle even in retirement.

As he looks forward to the upcoming season, Cox expresses optimism about the Eagles’ performance and is eager to see how the team will fare. He emphasizes the importance of resilience and positivity in the face of challenges, noting that there are no easy paths to success in the NFL. Despite the uncertainties and ups and downs that come with professional football, Cox remains supportive of his former team and encourages them to give their best effort each game. His experience and perspective as a retired player provide a unique insight into the demands and rewards of the sport, and he continues to stay connected to the game and the fans even in his retirement.
