Oura has recently unveiled its latest health and sleep tracker, the Ring 4, featuring an upgraded sensing system, titanium design, and longer battery life. Priced at $349, the Ring 4 will begin shipping on October 15, with orders opening on October 3. The company aims to enhance core functionality such as design, accuracy, and comfort to differentiate itself in a market with increasing competition from the likes of Samsung and Google’s Fitbit.

The Ring 4 not only tracks health, sleep, and wellness metrics like its predecessor, but also offers additional sizes and finishes, including brushed silver, black, gold, rose gold, and stealth. It utilizes titanium not only for the exterior but also the interior, making it lighter than the Ring Gen 3. The sleek design, available sizes, and new finishes aim to appeal to a wider range of users looking for a stylish and accurate health tracker device.

The biggest upgrade in the Ring 4 lies in its new sensing system, promising more accurate health tracking capabilities. With a smart sensing algorithm that tailors readings based on individual finger characteristics, the Ring 4 offers improved accuracy through multiple LED systems and a titanium design that enhances signal quality. An external study comparing the Ring 4 to the Gen 3 reported significant improvements in signal quality for blood oxygen sensing and heart rate monitoring.

In addition to accuracy improvements, the Ring 4 boasts up to eight days of battery life, exceeding its predecessor’s seven-day lifespan. The Oura app has also been redesigned to provide a more intuitive user experience, with three main tabs – Today, Vitals, and My Health – offering easy access to personalized health metrics and trends over time. This app overhaul aims to make health data more accessible and actionable for users, complementing the enhancements in the Ring 4’s hardware features.

The landscape of health tracking wearables is becoming increasingly competitive, with companies like Samsung and Fitbit debuting their own health trackers with advanced features. Oura’s focus on accuracy, design, and user comfort in the Ring 4 sets it apart, positioning it as a comprehensive health tracker for everyday users and tech enthusiasts alike. The company’s commitment to ongoing innovation and improving the user experience bodes well for the future of the Oura Ring and its potential impact on the health and wellness market.
