Artificial Intelligence is a term that may be inaccurate when describing the scientific field it represents. It implies that we have the knowledge to recreate human intelligence artificially, which is not entirely true. These systems have advanced computational capabilities but are not truly intelligent, as they lack the cognitive and emotional capacities associated with human intelligence. The pursuit of AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) raises concerns about the boundaries between technology and humanity.

The concept of intelligence is multifaceted and includes various dimensions beyond cognitive abilities. Acting with intelligence involves critical thinking, creativity, decision-making, emotional intelligence, adaptability, long-term thinking, ethical behavior, and openness to others. These qualities combine to lead to intelligent action and outcomes. Integrity is at the core of truly intelligent action, and the focus should be on enhancing human capacities for humanity rather than pursuing more powerful artificial intelligence.

Artificial Integrity, coined by the author, emphasizes the importance of maintaining integrity in all societal systems, with human and artificial intelligence working together to achieve greater integrity. The development of artificial intelligence should not only focus on commercial goals but also be guided by organizations regulating markets to prevent monopolistic conditions. The Marginal, AI-First, Human-First, and Fusion modes define strategies for leveraging human and artificial intelligence based on specific contexts and needs.

The Marginal mode involves minimal reliance on both human and artificial intelligence, as seen in environments like robotic car assembly lines. The AI-First mode prioritizes artificial intelligence over human intellect, as demonstrated by DeepMind’s AlphaGo excelling in games like Go and chess. The Human-First mode highlights the importance of human intelligence in fields requiring deep human connections, such as social work and education. The Fusion mode represents a synergy between human and artificial intelligence, creating a collective intelligence in contexts like urban planning.

These modes are interconnected and represent transitional phases from one to the other, offering flexibility in aligning human values with the use of intelligences, including artificial ones. Artificial Integrity serves as a new approach to artificial intelligence, emphasizing the importance of integrity and humanity in technology development. By embracing a holistic view of intelligence and integrity, society can harness the potential of human and artificial intelligence to create a more cohesive and ethical future.
