In recent news, famous funnymen and legendary Hollywood personalities have decided to cash in on the booming luxury housing market by listing their lavish homes for sale. The Institute for Luxury Home Marketing has reported that the luxury housing market has been on an upward trajectory since the end of last year. This trend is reflected in the housing market in Los Angeles, where homes owned by big names like Jim Carrey and Bob Barker are currently listed. According to RedFin, home prices in Los Angeles have risen by almost 6% since February of 2023.

The median sale price for a single-family home in Los Angeles, where the cost of living is 50% higher than the national average, reached $1.17 million in February of 2024. Colibri Real Estate’s luxury market report reveals that in the luxury market specifically, single-family home listings were up 41.4% in February of 2023 compared to the same month the previous year, with sales of luxury homes increasing by 23.5% across North America.

One of the notable listings in the luxury housing market is actor and comedian Jim Carrey’s Los Angeles mansion, which has recently been reduced in price from $29 million to $23.9 million. The stunning compound sits on a two-acre lot and features a waterfall pool, a tennis court, and a treetop yoga platform. The 10,954 square feet of living space includes five bedrooms, nine bathrooms, an infrared sauna, a steam room, and a private art deco-style theater.

Another celebrity home on the market is Laurie David’s “Porch House” in Los Angeles’ upscale neighborhood of Pacific Palisades, priced at $8.9 million. Nestled on a cliffside with mountain views, this 5,000 square foot indoor-outdoor home boasts four bedrooms and five bathrooms. Designed by architect Johnston Marklee, known for various high-profile projects, the house features native landscaping with groves of lemon and lime trees.

The former estate of “Tonight Show” host Johnny Carson has also hit the market for $5.3 million. The impressive nearly 10,000 square foot home, located outside of New York City, includes six bedrooms, eight bathrooms, multiple fireplaces, a pickleball court, outdoor spa, ice cream bar, custom offices, and a gym with an indoor cana bath and private sauna. The property has a rich history, originally built as a stone barn in the 1860s and once owned by famous children’s book illustrator Fritz Siebel.

Additionally, the legendary TV game show host Bob Barker’s longtime Hollywood residence is up for sale at $2.988 million. The historic property, designated as a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument, was built in 1929 and features original details from the time period, including a painted coffered ceiling and stained glass windows. With a fascinating history that includes previous owners like Gen. Harrison Gray Otis and Charles E. Toberman, the house also boasts a library with a bar and a backyard pool.
