The Young family recently lost their beloved husband and father, Brandon Young, to a hemorrhagic stroke caused by high blood pressure. Brandon had struggled with this condition since he was a teenager, and despite efforts to control it, he eventually passed away on May 17, 2024. Left behind are Katie Young and their three children, who remember Brandon as a kind, positive, and easygoing person who always brought a sense of community wherever he went. Planning a traditional funeral for Brandon felt too traumatic for the family, so they decided to host a “FUNeral” in his honor instead. This event was filled with things that Brandon loved, including art supplies for guests to use, pictures of Brandon for people to draw on, popsicles, a record collection, and even a bounce house for the kids.

The “FUNeral” was a huge success, with over 500 people showing up to honor Brandon’s memory. Katie Young was thrilled to see her children smiling and laughing throughout the event, as it provided a way for them to remember their father in a positive and joyous way. The presence of friends and family made Katie feel like Brandon was with them in spirit, bringing comfort and support during this difficult time. She believes that they will see Brandon again one day, which added to the significance of the event. To help with additional family costs, the Young family has set up a GoFundMe page, as they navigate life without their beloved husband and father.

The decision to host a “FUNeral” instead of a traditional funeral was a reflection of Brandon’s personality and interests. By including elements that he loved, such as art, popsicles, music, and a bounce house, the event became a celebration of his life rather than a somber occasion. This unique approach to grieving allowed the Young family and their guests to remember Brandon in a positive and joyful way, honoring his memory in a manner that felt authentic and meaningful to them. The outpouring of love and support from the community further reinforced the idea that Brandon’s spirit and presence will always be with them.

Katie Young’s creativity and thoughtfulness in planning the “FUNeral” helped to create a memorable and meaningful event that brought comfort and healing to her family and friends. By focusing on the things that brought joy to Brandon’s life, the Young family was able to celebrate his memory in a way that felt true to who he was as a person. The event served as a reminder of the impact Brandon had on those around him and the love and laughter he brought into their lives. Through the “FUNeral,” the Young family was able to begin the healing process and find moments of happiness and peace amidst their grief.

As the family continues to grieve the loss of their husband and father, the support of friends, family, and community, as well as the memories created during the “FUNeral,” will serve as sources of strength and comfort. The event was a reflection of the love and joy that Brandon brought into the world, and it provided a space for those who knew him to come together and celebrate his life. By choosing to honor Brandon in a way that felt authentic to his spirit and personality, the Young family found a unique and meaningful way to navigate the difficult process of grieving and healing. The “FUNeral” will likely be remembered as a special and heartfelt tribute to a beloved husband and father who touched the hearts of many.
