Brandon Boyd, the lead singer of rock band Incubus, has a variety of interests outside of music, including plants, fungi, collecting books and tattoos, painting, writing, accents, surfing, and his late French bulldog, Bruce. He cofounded Incubus when he was just 15 years old and the band is still touring stadiums across the country nearly 33 years later. Boyd also started a fine art print company called Moonlight Arts Collective and has released three solo albums: The Wild Trapeze, Sons of the Sea, and Echoes & Cocoons.

Aside from his music career, Boyd has a love for reading, interacting with other people’s brains through books, and collecting tattoos since he was 15 years old. He is also passionate about art and has been painting and making art since the early 2000s, with his most recent gallery show in Dallas. Boyd is fascinated by plants and fungi, a topic he could talk about endlessly, and has a love for writing, which led him to share more on the Substack platform.

Boyd’s interests also extend to his fascination with accents, dialects, languages, and animal communication. He had a fun experience acting for the first time last year when he played White Jesus on Reservation Dogs. Despite being severely burned as an infant by a rogue pot of coffee, Boyd still loves coffee. He also has a bunion named Paul and his kneecaps are named Chet and Garrison. Additionally, he shared childhood memories, such as being convinced the Big Bad Wolf lived in his toilet at 6 years old.

Boyd’s musical journey with Incubus has been successful, with the band selling around 23 to 24 million albums. He humorously suspects that their parents may have purchased most, if not all, of those albums, storing them in their garages. Boyd’s love for horror films sees them as high art when done well and he reminisces on his grandfather playing guitar and singing softly in Spanish. He also loves going on long walks and purposefully getting lost, along with creating unique items like jigsaw puzzles and memory games.

In August, Incubus is set to do a 10-arena tour in the U.S., where they will perform their album Morning View in its entirety each night. Boyd is proud to have been a part of the band for over three decades and continues to explore his diverse interests in plants, art, writing, and more. His wide range of passions and experiences add depth to his creative endeavors and personal life, showcasing a multifaceted and dynamic individual behind the rockstar persona.
