Justin and Alex Russo, played by David Henrie and Selena Gomez, are set to make a return to Disney Channel in a Wizards of Waverly Place revival. The news was officially announced in January 2024, much to the excitement of fans who have been eagerly anticipating a reunion between the two stars. The original series aired from 2007 to 2012 and also starred Jake T. Austin, David DeLuise, Maria Canals-Barrera, and Jennifer Stone.

Henrie had previously hinted at the possibility of a reunion in a 2020 YouTube video, mentioning that there was a lot of goodwill towards the idea and that a reunion would happen eventually. Now, with the revival officially confirmed, fans can look forward to seeing Justin and Alex back on screen together. Gomez will reprise her role as Alex, while Henrie will return as Justin, who has since left his wizard powers behind for a normal life with his wife and two sons.

In addition to Henrie and Gomez, new cast members have been announced, including Janice LeAnn Brown as a young wizard named Billie, Mimi Gianopulos as Justin’s wife, and Alkaio Thiele as one of Justin’s sons, Roman. The revival will follow a new storyline that involves a mysterious incident at WizTech and a powerful young wizard who seeks Justin’s guidance to ensure the future of the Wizard World.

Production on the Wizards of Waverly Place revival began in January 2024, with the show scheduled to premiere later in the year. The new series is not a reboot but a different version that explores the characters in a new light. Gomez expressed her excitement about bringing the characters back in a fresh way during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in February 2024.

Henrie and Gomez will also serve as executive producers for the revival, which was officially greenlit for a complete season by Disney Channel in March 2024. The show will begin filming in April with the two stars returning as actors. Fans can expect the new series to debut on Disney Channel later in 2024, although a specific premiere date has not been announced yet.
