Eco Vision Memramcook, a social enterprise that employs adults with disabilities, held a photoshoot for its employees at the future site of their new clothing boutique. The employees were getting their hair and makeup done professionally for the first time, creating a Hollywood-like experience for them. The organization aims to provide empowering experiences for their employees, many of whom have not had the opportunity to participate in social activities like prom and have faced bullying in the past. Executive Director Audrey Mazurek hopes that the photos from the shoot will not only be empowering for the employees but also for other adults with intellectual disabilities.

The current thrift store location of Eco Vision Memramcook has outgrown its space, prompting the move to a new location with a more boutique-like feel. Mazurek envisions the new location featuring big posters of the participants modeling the thrift store’s clothing. Photographer André Boulard volunteered his services for the photoshoot, emphasizing the importance of sharing and expressing oneself without fear. The students from the Jon Raymond Institute, a beauty school in Moncton, also provided hair and makeup services for the event free of charge, adding to the empowering and inclusive atmosphere.

The participants, including employee Carmella Caroll, expressed their excitement and enjoyment during the photoshoot. Caroll particularly enjoyed working with her friends and boss, whom she considers to be her friends as well. Each participant was given the opportunity to choose an outfit from the donated clothes in the thrift store’s stock, adding a personal touch to the photoshoot experience. The event aimed to create a fun and empowering environment for the employees, allowing them to experience something they may not have had the chance to do before.

The event was a collaboration between Eco Vision Memramcook, the beauty school, and the photographer, highlighting the importance of community support and inclusivity. By providing the participants with the opportunity to have their hair and makeup done professionally and model for the photoshoot, the organization is promoting self-expression and empowerment for adults with disabilities. The photos from the shoot will not only serve as a marketing tool for the new boutique but also as a showcase of the participants’ beauty, confidence, and individuality. Overall, the event exemplifies the organization’s commitment to creating meaningful and inclusive experiences for its employees and the community.
