Drew Carey recently expressed his disappointment with U2’s performance at The Sphere in Las Vegas after attending a Phish concert. He felt that Phish outperformed U2, making them look like a bar band in comparison. Despite acknowledging that U2 put on a great show, Carey was impressed by Phish’s use of the audio and video capabilities of the venue to their advantage.

Carey has been a vocal fan of Phish for some time, even stating that he would do anything to see the band again. He described his experience at a Phish concert as transcendent, comparing it to feeling saved by Jesus and meeting God. Fans responded positively to Carey’s enthusiasm, with one user mentioning that they saw his excitement at the show in real time.

Phish announced a residency at The Sphere in Las Vegas in 2023, performing four dates in April 2024. U2 also had a residency at the venue, performing a total of 40 shows from September 2023 to March 2024. U2’s show, titled “U2: UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere,” revolved around their 1991 album Achtung Baby. Due to high demand, U2 added 11 additional dates to their residency.

Lead vocalist and guitarist Trey Anastasio expressed the band’s excitement about performing at The Sphere and providing a unique experience for Phish fans. The venue, with a price tag exceeding $2 billion, offered a breathtaking canvas for the band’s performance. Phish and U2 both took advantage of the audio and visual capabilities of the venue to create memorable shows for their audiences.
