Former President Donald Trump has accepted Fox News Media’s invite to host a vice presidential debate on behalf of his future running mate, even though a potential vice president has not been picked yet. The invitation came after President Joe Biden challenged Trump to a debate, which was followed by CNN inviting both candidates to a debate on June 27 in Atlanta. Trump, who skipped every Republican primary debate, has expressed his willingness to debate Biden in the past. Fox News Media proposed two potential debate dates—July 23 or August 13—and reached out to Virginia State University as a potential location for the event.

The Democratic National Convention is set to nominate its 2024 candidates between August 19 to 22 in Chicago, while the Republican National Convention has planned its nomination vote to be held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, between July 15 to 18. In addition, a different date for the vice presidential debate could be selected “following both nomination conventions.” The chosen location, VSU, was previously selected by the Commission on Presidential Debates to host a debate on October 1. However, recent reports suggest that the university may have been dropped from the 2024 debate lineup.

Trump has not revealed his potential vice presidential pick but has ruled out selecting Mike Pence and Nikki Haley. He has hinted that he will likely announce his choice at the RNC convention in July. Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris has accepted an invite from CBS News to participate in a vice presidential debate with Trump’s running mate sometime this summer. Harris has not responded to Fox News Media’s invite. The first presidential debate between Biden and Trump is set to take place on June 27 at CNN’s studios in Atlanta.

The invitations for the debates have been accepted by both candidates, leading to anticipation for the upcoming events. Trump has expressed his eagerness to debate Biden, whom he has branded as the “WORST debater” he has faced. Trump has accepted the invite to host the vice presidential debate on behalf of his future running mate, even though the specific candidate has not been revealed yet. The choice of location—Virginia State University—and potential debate dates—July 23 or August 13—have been proposed by Fox News Media. The response from both presidential campaigns is awaited following the acceptance of the invitations.

The debate events are significant milestones in the presidential campaign, providing an opportunity for voters to see the candidates discuss critical issues and showcase their policies. The prospect of a vice presidential debate adds another layer of excitement to the campaign. With the dates and locations for the debates set, the attention now turns to the candidates’ responses and preparation for the upcoming events. The choice of Virginia State University as a possible location for the debate highlights the commitment to hosting the event at a historically black college or university, enhancing the inclusivity and diversity of the political discourse. As the campaign progresses, the debates will play a crucial role in shaping the narrative and informing voters ahead of the election.
