Country music legend Dolly Parton recently announced that she would be personally donating $1 million towards Hurricane Helene relief efforts. She made the announcement at a Walmart parking lot in Newport, Tennessee and stated that the donation would go towards the Mountain Ways Foundation, a nonprofit organization supporting recovery efforts and survivors in eastern Tennessee, western North Carolina, and the greater Appalachian region. Additionally, her businesses, including Dollywood Parks & Resorts, Dolly Parton’s Stampede, and Pirates Voyage Dinner & Show, have matched her donation.

During the event, Parton expressed her deep connection to the communities affected by the hurricane, referring to them as “my mountains, my valleys, my rivers.” She performed a heartfelt rendition of her classic song “Jolene,” with modified lyrics dedicated to Hurricane Helene. Parton emphasized the importance of coming together to support those in need, drawing on her experiences of community unity following the 2016 wildfires in Sevier County, Tennessee, during which her My People Fund provided over $8 million to help those who lost their homes.

Walmart US president and CEO John Furner also announced at the event that the retail giant, along with Sam’s Club and the Walmart Foundation, would be increasing their commitment to Hurricane Helene relief efforts to a total of $10 million. The additional $4 million will further support recovery initiatives in the affected areas. In addition to financial contributions, Dollywood collaborated with Coca-Cola to provide a semi-truck of water to Cocke County in Tennessee, and donated reusable and disposable masks as well as protective garments.

Parton’s generosity and commitment to helping those in need have been a hallmark of her career, and her contributions to Hurricane Helene relief efforts highlight her dedication to supporting her community and the greater Appalachian region. By leveraging her personal donations and the resources of her businesses, she is able to make a significant impact in aiding the recovery and rebuilding process for those affected by the devastating hurricane. The partnership with Walmart and other organizations demonstrates the power of collaboration in times of crisis, as different entities come together to provide support and resources to those in need.

As the recovery efforts continue in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, Parton’s donation and the ongoing support from Walmart and other partners will play a crucial role in helping communities rebuild and recover from the devastation. By mobilizing resources and rallying support, these efforts will help to address immediate needs such as water, protective gear, and financial assistance, while also laying the groundwork for long-term recovery and resilience in the affected regions. Parton’s leadership and generosity serve as an inspiration for others to come together and make a positive difference in the face of adversity.
