Daniel Ricciardo, a Formula 1 driver currently driving for Visa Cash App Racing Bulls (VCARB), has expressed interest in potentially moving to NASCAR in the future. In a recent interview with Tourism Western Australia, Ricciardo shared his ambitions post-Formula 1 and mentioned his desire to explore opportunities in other motorsports leagues, including NASCAR. He stated his admiration for NASCAR and his dream of driving around tracks like Daytona International Speedway.

The idea of a former Formula 1 driver crossing over to NASCAR is not uncommon, with notable names like Juan Pablo Montoya, Kamui Kobayashi, Kimi Raikkonen, and Jacques Villeneuve making the transition. Given Ricciardo’s love for the United States and growing interest in NASCAR, it is not surprising that he is considering such a move. He is also aware of PROJECT91, an initiative by Trackhouse Racing and Pitbull aimed at bringing international racing stars into NASCAR, which could potentially appeal to Ricciardo.

Justin Marks, co-owner of Trackhouse Racing, has acknowledged Ricciardo’s knowledge of PROJECT91 and hinted at potential interest from the team. However, in 2022, Ricciardo’s primary focus was on securing his future in Formula 1, despite the emerging opportunities in NASCAR. While some may expect him to jump at the chance, Ricciardo is still aiming for a seat in F1’s Red Bull team and is not sure about competing in NASCAR but desires to experience it.

The future of Ricciardo’s Formula 1 career remains uncertain as he currently trails his teammate Yuki Tsunoda by 10 points. With no contract secured for the 2025 season, competition is intense. Red Bull Racing reserve driver Liam Lawson is also in contention for a seat in Red Bull’s sister team, adding pressure to Ricciardo’s situation. VCARB is expected to confirm its second driver alongside Tsunoda after the Singapore Grand Prix, with Red Bull having an idea of the team’s future direction.

Despite his interest in NASCAR, Ricciardo’s focus remains on his Formula 1 career, aiming for success with VCARB. He acknowledges the challenges of transitioning to a different motorsport and recognizes the difficulties he may face competing in NASCAR. While he would love to experience the thrill of NASCAR racing, he is mindful of his background and the level of competition he would encounter. With the upcoming decision on VCARB’s second driver, Ricciardo’s future in Formula 1 is still up in the air, with uncertainties surrounding his potential move to NASCAR.
