Anime streaming service Crunchyroll is raising prices for its Mega Fan and Ultimate Fan subscription tiers in the US, Argentina, Portugal, France, and Colombia. The Mega Fan plan will increase from $10 to $12 per month, while the Ultimate Fan tier will change to $16 a month. The company cites its expanded library and added perks as reasons for the price hike, noting that it has not updated its pricing since 2019. The free trial period is also being shortened from 14 days to seven, but the Fan subscription will remain the same at $8 monthly for US customers. Those using the free, ad-based version of the app will not be affected by the price changes.

In addition to its anime titles, Crunchyroll offers a selection of mobile games and music for its premium users. The Crunchyroll Game Vault features titles such as Wolfstride, Hime’s Quest, Thunder Ray, and Sushi for Robots. Premium subscribers also have access to music videos and full-length concerts from artists like Blue Encount or Super Beaver, who are known for creating anime hits. The streaming platform is gearing up for the release of two highly anticipated anime titles, Demon Slayer and My Hero Academia, this spring. Subscribers also receive discounts on Crunchyroll Store products and early access to exclusives and convention deals.

Price hikes are becoming common among streaming services, with Peacock recently announcing an increase for its subscribers this summer. In 2023, major services like Netflix, Disney Plus, Hulu, Apple TV Plus, and Paramount Plus also raised prices on at least one subscription plan. Crunchyroll’s decision to raise prices for its Mega Fan and Ultimate Fan tiers reflects this trend in the industry, as companies continue to expand their libraries and offer added perks to attract and retain subscribers. Despite the price hikes, Crunchyroll remains a popular choice for anime fans looking for a wide selection of anime titles and exclusive content.
