Christina Applegate, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2021, has taken a step back from acting but remains hopeful that she can return to the entertainment industry in some capacity in the future. In the first episode of her new podcast, she discussed the possibility of eventually going back to the job she has loved since childhood. Applegate’s co-host, fellow actor Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who has lived with MS for 22 years, encouraged her to consider playing a character with MS in the future. While Applegate acknowledged that she misses acting, she also expressed the need for time to focus on her health and well-being before making any decisions about her career.

The podcast, executive produced by Applegate, Sigler, and Allison Bresnick, will feature guests discussing health and other issues. Applegate publicly shared her MS diagnosis in August 2021 and has been open about the symptoms that led to her diagnosis, including tingling in her extremities, difficulty walking, and feeling unbalanced. She believes these symptoms began years before she was officially diagnosed. Despite facing challenges such as pain, numbness, and balance issues, Applegate remains determined to find ways to manage her symptoms and improve her quality of life.

Applegate’s future in acting remains uncertain, with the actress acknowledging that she is unsure of what her role in the industry will be moving forward. In a June 2023 interview, she discussed the challenges of returning to acting given her health condition and the need to establish boundaries on set. Applegate previously hinted that her role in the most recent season of “Dead To Me” may have been her last acting job. However, she has not ruled out the possibility of returning to acting at some point in the future, especially if the right opportunity arises.

Applegate’s journey with MS and her decision to step back from acting reflect the challenges faced by individuals living with chronic illnesses. While she misses the work and routine of being on set, Applegate recognizes the importance of taking time to prioritize her health and well-being. By sharing her story and experiences with MS, Applegate hopes to raise awareness and inspire others facing similar challenges. The support of friends like Sigler, who understand the impact of living with MS, has been instrumental in Applegate’s journey towards acceptance and resilience.

As Applegate navigates her diagnosis and future in the entertainment industry, she remains focused on finding a balance between her passion for acting and her health needs. The launch of her podcast provides a platform for discussing important issues related to health and wellness, showcasing her commitment to advocating for herself and others living with chronic illnesses. While the road ahead may be uncertain, Applegate’s determination and resilience serve as a source of inspiration for those facing similar challenges, highlighting the importance of embracing self-care and self-compassion in the face of adversity.
