A woman from Nova Scotia has gained attention after sharing a video of her pet cat, Macy, playing dead to let her owner know she is hungry. The quirky ginger cat has been performing this routine for years, laying on her back with her paws curled up on her belly until her owner is directly above her. Macy then opens her eyes and jerks her head towards her owner, signaling she is ready to be fed. According to Macy’s owner, Rylie Peacock, this dramatic request works about 50 percent of the time, with Peacock often giving her cat a treat or feeding her dinner regardless.

Peacock adopted Macy from a rescue center as a 9-week-old kitten, and since then, the cat has displayed her unique way of communicating her hunger on a regular basis. Despite being clumsy and not great at balancing, Macy manages to pull off her playing-dead stunt with comedic effect. The ASPCA notes that cats can be quite demanding when it comes to meal times, with some meowing to wake their owners up for breakfast, while others meow whenever anyone enters the kitchen. Macy, however, displays her vocal abilities in other ways, particularly when she is bird watching and emits a cute cackle.

The TikTok video of Macy’s dramatic request for food has garnered close to 1 million views, with many viewers finding the cat’s behavior amusing and endearing. Comments on the video describe cats as comical and dramatic, with one individual humorously remarking that Macy seems to be at death’s door. Peacock admitted that she never expected her cat’s antics to go viral, and she is surprised by the ongoing attention the video has received. She expressed her love for Macy and her happiness at being able to share her special furry friend with the world.
