Young tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has pulled out of the Monte-Carlo Masters tournament this week due to an arm injury. His first match was scheduled in the second round against Felix Auger-Aliassime. Alcaraz, a two-time Grand Slam champion, announced his withdrawal on social media, explaining that he was unable to recover from an injured pronator teres in his right arm in time to compete. Lucky loser Lorenzo Sonego will now take his place in the tournament.

The world No. 3 was seen wearing strapping on his right arm during a practice session before the tournament, raising concerns about a potential injury. Reports indicated that Alcaraz appeared to be in discomfort while practicing, opting to use slice shots instead of forehands to reduce intensity. Despite not feeling any pain in his ankle, which had previously forced him to withdraw from a match in February, Alcaraz acknowledged that the upcoming matches would likely be challenging.

In February, Alcaraz had to withdraw from a match against Thiago Monteiro at the Rio Open due to an ankle injury. However, he returned to claim back-to-back Indian Wells titles in March, showcasing his resilience and determination on the court. With hopes of bouncing back from a recent quarter-final defeat at the Miami Open, Alcaraz entered the Monte-Carlo Masters eager to perform well but unfortunately had to withdraw due to his arm injury.

With Alcaraz sidelined, lucky loser Lorenzo Sonego will now face Felix Auger-Aliassime in place of the young Spaniard. Auger-Aliassime had previously secured a spot in the third round by defeating Luca Nardi in the opening round of the tournament. Despite the disappointment of missing out on the opportunity to compete, Alcaraz remains optimistic and looks forward to returning to the tournament next year. Fans will have to wait to see Alcaraz back in action, but in the meantime, they can stream the 2024 French Open live on discovery+.
