In an exciting Elite Eight matchup, the Iowa Hawkeyes defeated the LSU Tigers 94-87, led by a standout performance from Caitlin Clark who scored 41 points. This victory was particularly sweet for Iowa, as they had lost to LSU in the national championship game the previous season. Clark’s impressive shooting included nine three-pointers, despite tough defense from Hailey Van Lith. In addition to her scoring ability, Clark also dished out 12 assists, breaking the NCAA Tournament career record.

The turning point in the game came in the third quarter when Iowa went on an 8-0 run to take control of the game. By the end of the quarter, Clark had hit four of her nine threes, helping Iowa to an 11-point lead entering the fourth. Although LSU fought hard and outscored Iowa in the final quarter, it wasn’t enough to overcome the Hawkeyes’ lead. Angel Reese, who led LSU in the first quarter, suffered an ankle injury in the second quarter and struggled to find her shooting touch after returning to the game.

Despite being out-rebounded by LSU, Iowa’s efficient shooting ultimately made the difference in the game. Alongside Clark’s 41 points, Kate Martin scored 21 points on 50% shooting, and Sydney Affolter added 16 points on 50% shooting as well. LSU’s Mikaylah Williams scored 18 points on 6-of-16 shooting, while Van Lith struggled with her shot, going 2-of-10 from the field. The Tigers shot just 38.6% as a team, compared to Iowa’s 45.7% shooting.

With this victory, Iowa advances to the Final Four and will await the winner of the USC vs. UConn matchup to see who they will face next. The young fans of Caitlin Clark, who has been dubbed “The Goat” by her supporters, were thrilled to see her lead Iowa to this crucial win. Clark’s scoring prowess and ability to get her teammates involved were key factors in the victory, as Iowa avenged their previous loss to LSU and secured their spot in the Final Four. The Hawkeyes will now prepare to face their next opponent with confidence and determination as they continue their quest for a national championship.
