The weather in south-east Queensland is expected to be unsettled and humid over the next few days, with a mix of thunderstorms and partly cloudy conditions. A surface trough pulling in moisture is causing instability in the region, leading to an increase in storm and rain activity. This weather pattern is forecasted to shift further north as the new year approaches.

More than 150,000 people are anticipated to gather at South Bank and its surrounding areas to watch the New Year’s Eve fireworks display. The event will feature 80,000 individual fireworks launched from barges in the Brisbane River, with the first display scheduled for 7.45pm. This earlier show is designed to be family-friendly, with the soundtrack streamed on the Cinewav app for viewers to enjoy from various locations. The midnight fireworks display will last for seven minutes, with The Star casino providing a synchronised light show on the Queen’s Wharf building.

The theme for this year’s fireworks display is “Inspire,” with new fireworks styles such as the hibiscus, hydrangea, and “dragon cakes” incorporated into the show. Skylighter Fireworks, the company behind the display, aims to create a moment of reflection, renewal, and growth for revelers on New Year’s Eve. Project manager Dale Norris expressed excitement and honor in providing this special moment for people to share.

The weather forecast for south-east Queensland includes the possibility of hit-and-miss thunderstorms and increased humidity levels, making conditions potentially uncomfortable in the coming days. The presence of a surface trough in the region is contributing to the instability and moisture, leading to a higher chance of storm and rain activity. As the new year approaches, these weather patterns are expected to shift towards the north.

With a significant number of people expected to attend the New Year’s Eve fireworks display at South Bank, organizers are preparing for a large turnout and have planned two separate fireworks shows for the evening. The early show at 7.45pm will be family-friendly and accompanied by a streamed soundtrack accessible via the Cinewav app. In addition to the fireworks on the Brisbane River barges, The Star casino will provide a synchronised light display and countdown for both the early and midnight shows.

Skylighter Fireworks has chosen “Inspire” as the theme for this year’s New Year’s Eve display, aiming to create a moment of reflection, renewal, and growth for spectators. With new fireworks styles like hibiscus, hydrangea, and “dragon cakes” featured in the show, organizers hope to provide a unique and memorable experience for attendees. The anticipation for the event is high, with people encouraged to come together and celebrate the start of a new year with the magical fireworks display in Brisbane.
