Europe’s wealthiest tech billionaires, brothers Igor and Dmitri Bukhman, have recently established the Bukhman Family Foundation, which aims to support research for a cure for type 1 diabetes as well as provide funding for science, education, and the arts. The foundation, registered in the U.K., is expected to support charitable causes in the U.K, Israel, and Ukraine. The brothers, who have not disclosed the amount they donated to the foundation, have committed $4 billion to their family office, Rix Capital, making it one of the largest in the world.

The Bukhman brothers, co-founders of mobile games developer Playrix, have amassed a net worth of $18.2 billion thanks to their successful business ventures. Playrix, founded in Russia in 2004, has achieved significant success with popular free-to-play apps like Homescapes and Fishdom. Despite facing challenges such as relocating their headquarters from Russia to Ireland and subsequently to Israel due to political reasons, the brothers have managed to maintain their majority shareholding in the company, which generated $2.4 billion in sales in 2022.

In addition to their business success, the Bukhman brothers are now focusing on philanthropic efforts through the Bukhman Family Foundation. This move aligns with the trend among wealthy individuals, particularly in the U.S., to establish family philanthropic foundations to support various charitable causes. While such foundations are more common among Silicon Valley and Wall Street billionaires, European philanthropists like the Bukhman brothers, Guillaume Pousaz, Anders Holch Povlsen, and James Dyson are also joining the movement by setting up charitable foundations to give back to society.

The Bukhman Family Foundation has already shown its commitment to supporting the arts by funding a commission by artist Alvaro Barrington at London’s Tate Britain gallery. The foundation has also embarked on a wellness project that offers nutrition and parenting workshops at schools across London. With a focus on charitable causes in the U.K., Israel, and Ukraine, the foundation is expected to make a significant impact in these regions by supporting research, education, and the arts.

As the Bukhman brothers continue to build on their successful careers in the tech industry, they are now channeling their wealth and resources towards making a positive impact on society through their charitable foundation. By investing in research for a cure for type 1 diabetes and supporting various charitable causes, the brothers are exemplifying the growing trend among wealthy individuals to give back to their communities and support important initiatives that can benefit society as a whole. With their significant financial resources and commitment to philanthropy, the Bukhman brothers are poised to make a meaningful difference in the lives of many people through their foundation’s activities and initiatives.
