President Biden recently had a moment of confusion during a press conference event for the Quad summit on Saturday when he forgot which world leader he was supposed to introduce next. He was meant to call India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the stage but appeared unsure of which visiting head of government he was supposed to name. After wrapping up his remarks, Biden asked, “Who am I introducing next?” before an announcer revealed that Modi was the next leader to come up and interact with Biden. The quad alliance, established to counter China’s influence, includes the US, Japan, India, and Australia.

Biden made a joke about Modi being from a small country like the US and lauded him as a good and decent man. He later announced a global extension of his Cancer Moonshot initiative during the summit, which seeks to reduce cancer deaths through a partnership between the four countries. Despite hosting the Quad summit with key allies and announcing significant initiatives, Biden’s age of 81 has led to concerns about his mental acuity. Throughout his presidency, he has faced similar incidents of forgetfulness or confusion during high-profile events, including interactions with world leaders.

Democrats have reportedly pressured Biden to drop his reelection bid due to concerns about his mental state and age, rendering him a lame-duck president. During a recent Cabinet meeting, first lady Jill Biden took charge of most of the talking, raising eyebrows about the president’s ability to lead effectively. The quad summit was positioned as Biden’s final meeting with the leadership of the Quad alliance before leaving office. He emphasized the strategic alignment between the countries and stressed that the Quad is here to stay despite potential challenges in the future.

Following the quad summit, Biden is scheduled to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for discussions on a “Plan for Victory” after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Zelensky is set to deliver a speech before the UN General Assembly’s 79th session and meet with Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Trump during his visit to the US. Biden will deliver remarks at the UN and engage with other world leaders throughout the week before attending his last Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation gathering in Peru and G20 summit in Brazil following the November presidential election.

Despite hosting important events and engaging with global leaders, Biden’s recent episode of confusion at the quad summit has raised concerns about his ability to fulfill presidential duties effectively. As the oldest president in US history, Biden’s age and instances of forgetfulness during public appearances have prompted speculation about his capabilities. While he continues to participate in international meetings and initiatives, calls for him to step aside for a younger, more mentally sharp leader have emerged, creating uncertainty about his remaining time in office.
