Former U.S. Senator Ted Kaufman admitted that the Department of Justice was “full of Biden people” during the Obama administration, raising concerns about the impartiality of President Biden’s DOJ today. Kaufman, who has a long history of working closely with Biden, made the comments in a 2012 Senate interview. He has worked for Biden for over two decades and was the head of Biden’s 2020 transition, playing a significant role in shaping a future Biden administration. Critics argue that Biden’s influence over the DOJ is evidence of corruption and political bias in high-profile investigations.

The resurfacing of Kaufman’s remarks comes as Biden’s DOJ is involved in investigations into former President Donald Trump and Biden’s own son, Hunter. Conservatives claim that these investigations are politically motivated and orchestrated by Biden’s allies in the DOJ. The hiring of former DOJ official Michael Colangelo to work on the case against Trump has raised further suspicions of bias. The involvement of individuals closely tied to Biden in these investigations has fueled accusations of corruption and election interference.

Biden administration officials have defended the DOJ’s independence and denied any political influence over its investigations. White House deputy press secretary Andrew Bates stated that President Biden has worked to restore the independence of the DOJ from politics, following a bipartisan tradition. He highlighted the administration’s achievements in job creation and reduction of violent crimes as evidence of its commitment to delivering results. However, critics remain skeptical of the DOJ’s impartiality under Biden’s leadership.

Republican lawmakers such as Rep. Lance Gooden and Congresswoman Elise Stefanik have been vocal critics of the Biden DOJ, accusing it of unlawfully targeting Trump for political reasons. Gooden sent a scathing letter to the DOJ and Manhattan District Attorney’s office, questioning the hiring of individuals with ties to the Biden administration on the case against Trump. Stefanik described the DOJ’s actions as an illegal form of election interference, suggesting that Biden’s influence over the department is compromising its integrity.

Former President Trump’s allies, including his son Donald Trump Jr., have denounced Biden’s alleged interference in the DOJ’s investigations. They argue that Biden is using the department as a tool to hinder Trump’s political comeback and undermine his presidency. Trump Jr. accused Biden of turning America into a “Banana Republic” by using the DOJ for political purposes. However, Biden’s supporters have pushed back against these claims, arguing that the DOJ operates independently and follows the facts and the law in its determinations.

Biden’s Attorney General Merrick Garland has faced scrutiny over the handling of various investigations and has defended the DOJ’s integrity. Garland emphasized that the department adheres to regulations and appoints experienced career prosecutors to lead investigations, emphasizing that politics does not play a role in their determinations. Despite these assurances, the DOJ’s reputation for impartiality remains under question, especially in light of revelations about its close ties to the Biden administration. Critics continue to raise concerns about the potential for political bias in high-profile cases under Biden’s leadership.
