As a first-generation African American, I am the first in my family to live a nomadic, entrepreneurial lifestyle. My mother, originally from Mombasa, Kenya, came to the United States to create a better life for herself and her family. Little did she know that her children would leverage technology to enrich their lives and build wealth. Through my online business, which sells consulting and on-demand workshops, I was able to start with less than $100 and make my first $300 in sales within a few days. The flexibility of entrepreneurship has allowed me to pursue a location-independent life, motivating me to try new things and share my experiences.

Being a digital nomad requires work and reliance on technology for communication and presentation. With the use of technology, such as a MacBook Pro, microphone, webcam, and hotspot, I can continue to work and grow my business while traveling the world. This level of flexibility was not as common in previous generations, allowing me to create financial freedom that is not tied to a specific location. By leveraging remote work and technology, I can generate income and build wealth from anywhere at any time, ultimately creating a sense of financial freedom that feels liberating.

One of the advantages of online entrepreneurship is the ability to start a business on a lean budget. Platforms like Fiverr and Upwork offer opportunities to offer services and connect with potential clients. These job platforms make it easier for individuals to monetize their skills and talents, providing an avenue for entrepreneurship through an internet connection. Additionally, automation tools and apps can streamline business tasks, allowing for more efficient work and time management. By controlling my calendar and streamlining processes, I can focus on exploring new countries and creating a life of freedom in various aspects.

For many people of color, including myself, entrepreneurship and digital nomadism have become strategies for bridging the racial wealth gap. Despite progress, there is still a disparity in wealth between Black and white households in the United States. By working remotely, saving money, and automating aspects of life, individuals can break generational wealth norms and create a financial legacy. Building wealth in this way not only provides financial security but also contributes to a sense of fulfillment and peace of mind. By planning to leave behind a legacy for future generations, individuals can set their families up for a better starting position, emphasizing the importance of financial literacy and empowerment.

Overall, remote work and technology have paved the way for individuals to build wealth while savoring the present moment. By setting clear goals and leveraging skills and technology, anyone can work towards financial independence and create a life of freedom and fulfillment. Whether through a job, business, or a combination of both, the possibilities for building wealth and leaving a legacy are within reach for those willing to take the time to learn and implement the necessary tools and strategies.
