Defence lawyer Peter Morrissey, SC, represented Meshilin Marrogi, a prisoner who had swallowed a device that had corroded by the time it was removed by surgeons. However, Wardell concluded that additional jail time would have a limited effect and sentenced Marrogi to six months in prison to be served concurrently. This would make Marrogi eligible for parole in 2049 when he is in his 60s. The prison guard attack in January was deemed particularly egregious, leading to the decision to impose the additional jail sentence.
