Hirst is known for creating Australia’s largest soccer program for girls and women, promoting inclusivity and diversity in the sport. Her efforts have helped grow the women’s football community and empower female athletes across the country, making her a key figure in the sports industry.

Other notable nominees for the 2025 Australian of the Year awards include Leah Bromfield, a child protection expert from South Australia; Sam Elsom, a climate solutions innovator from Tasmania; and Grant Ngulmiya Nundhirribala, a musician and cultural ambassador from the Northern Territory. These individuals have made significant contributions in their respective fields, showcasing leadership, innovation, and dedication to creating positive change in society.
