In today’s New York Times Connections puzzle, players are given 16 words and asked to put them into four groups that are somehow connected. Game editor Wyna Liu knows how to trick players by using words that can fit into more than one group. The hints for today’s groups range in difficulty from the easiest yellow group to the tough purple group. The yellow group hint is “So angry,” the green group hint is “Your level,” the blue group hint is “Systems that adjust the temperature,” and the purple group hint is “You got to know when to hold ’em.” Today’s Connections answers include the yellow group theme of “hopping mad” with words like boiling, fuming, livid, and steaming, the green group theme of “status” with words like position, ranking, standing, and station, the blue group theme of words that make up the acronym HVAC with words like air, conditioning, heating, and ventilation, and the purple group theme of activities that involve folding with words like baking, laundry, origami, and poker.

Playing Connections is easy, but winning is hard. Players must look at the 16 words and mentally assign them to related groups of four. The groups are coded by color, with the yellow group being the easiest, followed by the green, blue, and purple groups in increasing difficulty. Players must think about related terms and sometimes the connection between words has to do with just a part of the word. For example, one set of words was grouped together because each word started with the name of a rock band, including “Rushmore” and “Journeyman.”

For those looking for more game answers, the Wordle answer for today and the answer for Strands are also available. Wordle is seen as more of a vocabulary test, while Connections is more of a brainteaser. Players must use their critical thinking skills to identify the connections between words in order to successfully complete the puzzle. The game editor, Wyna Liu, ensures that players are challenged by including words that can be easily misconstrued and fit into multiple groups. Whether you’re a fan of Wordle or looking for a new challenge, trying out Connections could be an exciting and engaging way to test your puzzle-solving skills.
