Why?\u2019 He goes, \u2018Well, the Yankees lose.\u2019 \u2018The Yankees what?\u2019\u201d Costner replied. \u201c\u2018They lose, can\u2019t let that happen, Kev.\u2019 I said, \u2018George, it\u2019s a perfect game. I pitch a perfect game.\u2019 \u2018You don\u2019t even get a hit. They win.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Backed into a corner, Costner, who also starred in other iconic baseball movies like \u201cField of Dreams\u201d and \u201cBull Durham,\u201d said he used a bit of creative license to get Steinbrenner on his side.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow I\u2019m really lying right here right now because they do lose. I kick their ass with a perfect game,\u201d Costner said. \u201cAnd he goes, \u2018What do you mean they don\u2019t lose?\u2019 And I said, I\u2019m tap dancing, thinking, I said, \u2018You guys win the pennant. This is a meaningless game. You guys actually win. You don\u2019t need this game. In fact, you even bring up minor leaguers.\u2019 I\u2019m thinking, \u2018God, I\u2019m just a world-class liar here.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I said, \u2018You win. In fact, you not only win the pennant, George, you go on to win the World Series.\u2019 He goes, \u2018We do?\u2019 I said, \u2018You do in my story.
