And I know these players have the experience of doing it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The challenge of a grueling cross-country trek like this is exacerbated by the injury hits the team has already endured this season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Gotham opened training camp without star midfielder Rose Lavelle, who\u2019s still on the mend from offseason foot surgery. <\/p>\n<p>And club captain Tierna Davidson suffered a season-ending torn anterior cruciate ligament in the team\u2019s third match of the season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sofia Cook (thigh) and veteran defender Ella Stevens (back) were listed as out on the team\u2019s availability report for Friday\u2019s match but are considered day to day, according to the team.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Goalkeepers Shelby Hogan and Ryan Campbell are also sidelined with injuries.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hogan has been put on the 45-day injury list after undergoing what Amor\u00f3s described as a \u201clittle procedure\u201d on her thumb. Campbell will also miss this three-game swing after hurting her shoulder.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Their absences prompted Michelle Betos, Gotham\u2019s assistant goalkeepers coach, to come out of retirement to serve as a backup. <\/p>\n<p>The team also signed former Princeton goalie Tyler McCamey as a short-term injury replacement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The team\u2019s health is its biggest worry at the moment. <\/p>\n<p>But Gotham is hoping it can use their first win as momentum builder.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have to lean on each other and make sure that everyone is ready,\u201d defender Jess Carter said. \u201cWhether you start the game, whether you come on, whether you don\u2019t come on \u2014 everyone is so important. And I think everyone, hopefully, realizes that.
