Shame on the investigating agency for being more concerned about public perception \u2014 and pressure to charge someone \u2014 than actually investigating the facts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\tStatement from Rocky Arceneaux, who represented Kyren Lacy: pic.twitter.com\/VSjvWCbKe1\u2014 Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) April 18, 2025 <\/p>\n<p>Lacy was set to appear in front of a jury Monday after he was arrested in December following a car crash that killed a 78-year-old man. <\/p>\n<p>Lacy\u2019s death came less than two days before the scheduled court appearance.<\/p>\n<p>Arceneaux also echoed earlier sentiments of Lacy\u2019s attorney that the \u201cfelony charge of negligent homicide would have been declined by a grand jury\u201d and that Lacy \u201cwas willing to adhere to any civil matters\u201d no matter the case\u2019s outcome.<\/p>\n<p>Lacy\u2019s attorney, Matthew Ory, has been adamant in his defense of the former star LSU wide receiver, describing Lacy as \u201ca young man with immense promise, and he was crushed under the weight of an irresponsible and prejudiced process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The negative barrage on social media \u2026 the overall tone of coverage painted a deeply biased picture before he ever had the chance to defend himself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Like Arceneaux, Ory addressed the NFL not inviting Lacy to the combine, citing the fact that the league never assumed innocence for Lacy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe pressure and perception likely became unbearable,\u201d Ory said.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unknown if Lacy was going to hear his name called in this year\u2019s NFL draft, but before his arrest, he was receiving lots of draft buzz.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cK2 \u2014 You should have had the chance to reach your dream of playing in the NFL, in just a week\u2019s time,\u201d Arceneaux said of Lacy in the statement. \u201cIt hurts that the pressure, public perception, social media bullying \u2014 all without having the facts \u2014 were too much to bear.
