The heartbroken father of LSU wide receiver and NFL draft prospect Kyren Lacy has broken his silence after his son\u2019s sudden death at age 24.<\/p>\n
The aspiring pro athlete, who had declared for the 2025 NFL Draft, was found dead in Houston Saturday night following an apparent suicide.<\/p>\n
Taking to social media Sunday night, his distraught dad Kenny Lacy urged parents to check on their children\u2019s mental wellbeing.<\/p>\n
\u201cYoung parents, start talking to your kids at a very early age and make sure they are confident and comfortable confiding in you,\u201d Kenny wrote on Facebook following his son\u2019s death, which came just two weeks before the NFL draft.<\/p>\n
\u201cDon\u2019t be cool with \u2018I\u2019m Alright, or I\u2019m good\u2019 when you know deep down something isn\u2019t right. Mental Health is real, and for the most part [and] it\u2019s invisible. Don\u2019t ignore the signs, even if they may seem small.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cOur lives have changed forever and this will never be OK, but God needed my baby more than he was needed here,\u201d Kenny went on. \u201cThis has to be the biggest pill our families have had to swallow, but I know the love and compassion in our families will get us through.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThis will never get easier, but we\u2019ll learn to live with it,\u201d he concluded. \u201cCheck on your kids mental!!!!!!!!!!!\u201d<\/p>\n
Kyren\u2019s death came months after he was arrested for his alleged involvement in\u00a0a crash that killed a 78-year-old man\u00a0in Dec. 2024.<\/p>\n
Kyren, who took part in LSU\u2019s pro day on March 26, was charged with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run with death, reckless operation of a vehicle, and leaving the scene without notifying authorities.<\/p>\n
Kyren had turned himself in on Jan. 12 before being released on a $151,000 bond.<\/p>\n
He had been scheduled to report before a grand jury on April 14.<\/p>\n
His lawyer Matthew Ory has since released a statement criticizing the investigation regarding his client\u2019s arrest, saying the \u201cwitch hunt\u201d into the athlete was \u201ctargeted and overzealous.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were very confident the evidence, after being fully collected and reviewed, would lead to a declination of charges,\u2019\u2019 the statement read,\u00a0first released by WAFB-TV.<\/p>\n
Prior to his untimely death, Kyren had declared for the 2025 NFL draft, slated for April 24.<\/p>\n
\u201cLSU has truly made a big impact on my life on and off the field these past three years,\u201d he said in a statement on Instagram in December.<\/p>\n
