\u201cIt really made me reflect on my rowing journey and how special Port Rowing has been to me,\u201d Rust, who took bronze at the 2021 under-23 World Championships, told The Post of the program that develops youth crew talent on LI.<\/p>\n
\u201cI remember my coaches at Port pushing me really, really hard, and I realized, \u2018Wow, I can actually do so much more than I thought,\u2019 \u201d Rust, a stroke seat rower, added.<\/p>\n
Fogarty, a coxswain and two-time national champion at the University of Texas, said it was fate that brought her to Port as a middle schooler.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne of the coaches approached me and said, \u2018You\u2019re small, can you yell?\u2019 \u201d she recalled. \u201cI had gone to the first practice, and like that, off we went.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fogarty and Rust are touched to see so many new faces embracing Port Rowing and are proud to be role models for a new generation of young female athletes.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust even get one extra person to go sign up \u2026 and hopefully that kind of shapes their life,\u201d Fogarty said. \u201cEven if that happens to one girl out there, that\u2019d be awesome.\u201d<\/p>\n
