He\u2019s been the Knicks\u2019 best player for a month.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, he was tasked with guarding Phoenix\u2019s best player \u2014 Devin Booker, who exploded for 40 points \u2014 while leading the offense.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s been playing unbelievable these past couple of weeks. All season, but he really stepped up recently and he\u2019s just doing what he does. That\u2019s what we expect of him,\u201d Brunson said. \u201cEveryone knew what he could do defensively. Offensively I think he\u2019s taken a step forward just the way he\u2019s been playing. He\u2019s always had that and I think he\u2019s been showcasing it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brunson wasn\u2019t the only Knick returning from a long absence Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Miles McBride also played against the Suns after missing eight games because of a groin issue, marking the first time the 24-year-old appeared in more than two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>He scored eight points in 16 minutes off the bench, then explained what was holding up his comeback.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously if you watch me, I\u2019m explosive on both ends of the ball. I just really wanted to make sure I was comfortable and cutting and being explosive,\u201d McBride said.<\/p>\n<p>McBride played his usual role as the first guard off the bench and as part of the first Knicks team at virtually full strength in over a month. <\/p>\n<p>Mitchell Robinson, who rested during Saturday\u2019s win over the Hawks, Cam Payne, who was listed as probable before Sunday\u2019s tipoff because of a sprained ankle, and Karl-Anthony Towns, who has been dealing with finger and knee ailments, were also active.<\/p>\n<p>The only injured and inactive Knicks player was rookie Ariel Hukporti, who is done for the season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was good to have everyone out there again,\u201d Thibodeau said.<\/p>\n<p>With the Knicks on the brink of locking up the third seed (they need a win or a Pacers loss), Thibodeau indicated he won\u2019t change the approach \u2014 i.e., start resting players \u2014 once the position is clinched.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re not skipping over anything.
