He\u2019d already caught Carlos Carrasco, who started in the finale, a handful of times during the spring, too.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019d already started to \u201cfeel more comfortable.\u201d And when he stopped pressing Thursday, what followed was the \u201camazing\u201d moment of his first hit \u2014 the highlight of a 1-for-4 night.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s funny how baseball works,\u201d Escarra said postgame. \u201cWhen you don\u2019t try to do too much, that\u2019s when things come.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Aaron Boone gave Escarra a heads up before Wednesday\u2019s game that he could start behind the plate the next day. <\/p>\n<p>After the Yankees\u2019 loss, when Boone crossed paths with Escarra, the manager said, \u201cHey, you\u2019re back there tomorrow.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Escarra told his wife the news. His family, who saw his debut Saturday but already traveled home, all planned to watch, too. <\/p>\n<p>And after the game, Escarra dedicated the ball from the first hit to his father, a longtime Yankees fan who lived in Yonkers for 15 years.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeen through a lot,\u201d Escarra said of his father, \u201cso he deserves that ball, and he\u2019s gonna be happy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It took Escarra plenty of time \u2014 and required a winding, twisting, sinuous route \u2014 to get here. It took plenty of work in spring training to earn the trust of pitchers. <\/p>\n<p>He carved out a spot in Yankees history as the 13th-oldest player to make their MLB debut with the club, and at some point, he\u2019ll notch his first homer, first RBI, first of anything and everything else that can get tacked to his ledger.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And then, it\u2019ll all become normal for Escarra.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to feel it,\u201d Escarra told The Post pregame of the jitters. \u201cI want to feel everything because that\u2019s what makes it special and it\u2019s part of it. I want to feel all that, and go back to all the work that I put in.
