The newly minted Fordham coach told reporters during a Wednesday news conference that the chance to coach in New York City was part of why he \u201caggressively\u201d pursued the opening.<\/p>\n
Magpayo was the director of operations, assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Columbia University from 2010-2014.<\/p>\n
\u201cI love New York City. It\u2019s the greatest city in the world. It\u2019s my favorite city in the world, and it\u2019s why I aggressively pursued this opportunity,\u201d Magpayo said. \u201cOn the flip side, it was why I was sick to my stomach every day through the process, hoping for the chance to lead this program. And when [Fordham AD] Charles [Guthrie] called me, everything froze and tears streamed down my face. They were tears of joy, I assure you.\u201d<\/p>\n
Magpayo said that fans can expect to see a team that is going to be \u201cprepared\u201d and \u201cgritty\u201d and that he wants \u201csize at every position.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cBasketball-wise, we\u2019re going to keep it simple. We\u2019re going to defend, rebound, take care of the ball,\u201d he said. \u201cGet that tattooed \u2014 in fact, if we win an Atlantic 10 championship, I\u2019ll get that tattooed on me.\u201d<\/p>\n
