Certainly, a comparable season to what he did in The Bronx (at least) is expected, and as an ultra-young free agent (26) who seems impervious to pressure, it\u2019s hard to imagine he won\u2019t be great for at least the first eight to 10 years of that historic 15-year deal.<\/p>\n
Player who\u2019ll need to step up: Francisco Alvarez. The talented catcher declared that the Mets possess the best lineup in baseball almost as soon as he got to spring training. Realistically, it\u2019s probably hard to beat the Dodgers, who start their lineup with three Hall of Fame locks. But for the Mets to be in a real conversation about this issue, they need Alvarez to hit like they hope and expect. He didn\u2019t have the offensive year expected of him after an early-season injury in 2024, and this time he was felled in spring training by a broken hamate bone in his left hand.
