Maybe you can say that\u2019s a little bit of it. Definitely don\u2019t want an excuse or anything. I\u2019ve still got a job to do. I have to perform.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The post-Identity Line fourth line has faced much rougher sledding than anticipated. <\/p>\n<p>MacLean\u2019s linemates have rotated on a near-constant basis all season \u2014 the most he\u2019s played with one combination has been 13 games \u2014 in part due to injuries and in part because no combination has been particularly effective.<\/p>\n<p>MacLean, who played 9:06 in the loss, and Marc Gatcomb, who have made up two-thirds of the fourth line since Gatcomb\u2019s mid-January call-up, are also both on a learning curve in the NHL.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think when you get called up for the first time, it\u2019s not necessarily riding a high, but it\u2019s sort of a different feeling,\u201d MacLean said. \u201cThings can\u2019t go wrong. You kind of have a little more adrenaline. And you can\u2019t manufacture that. It\u2019s the way it is for everybody when they\u2019re first up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year, it\u2019s a little more \u2014 it\u2019s different in the sense of it\u2019s from camp on. Things aren\u2019t gonna go well [at points]. You have to figure it out, make sure you don\u2019t let those things affect you.
