You can\u2019t run Barstool and work for the government.\u2019 I guess Elon doesn\u2019t have a specific title, but you kind of want your CEO with the eye on the ball. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy the way even if I wanted to do that, they never followed up. They\u2019re like \u2018let us know if you could find somebody to run Barstool and you\u2019re interested in it. And if you are interested, we\u2019ll schedule a call in a week to go over the next steps.\u2019 That never happened. It was weird.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\tI was offered a position in the government but I would\u2019ve had to stop running Barstool to take it #DDTG pic.twitter.com\/T1eNqCcPek\u2014 Dave Portnoy (@stoolpresidente) March 11, 2025 <\/p>\n<p>He did not reveal who specifically called him with the offer. <\/p>\n<p>Portnoy founded Barstool in 2003, though he sold a majority of the company to The Chernin Group in 2016 before Penn National became majority owner in 2023. <\/p>\n<p>Portnoy bought back the company from Penn National for $1 later in 2023 and has since said he won\u2019t sell Barstool Sports again. <\/p>\n<p>That came just months after Penn National paid $550 million to acquire 100 percent of the company, hoping it would boost its sports betting business. <\/p>\n<p>But it created more problems for Penn National than benefits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe got denied licenses because of me,\u201d Portnoy said when he reacquired Barstool Sports. \u201cYou name it.
