Because it\u2019s a huge distraction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison explained the deal happened for several reasons, including their concerns over Doncic\u2019s conditioning and lifestyle choices.<\/p>\n<p>The team first came to the Lakers \u2014 the only team approached for this deal \u2014 with the idea Jan. 7 while the team was visiting in Dallas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe trade deadline is part of the business. It increases the level of stress for everybody,\u201d Buss said. \u201cAnd I\u2019m really proud that it didn\u2019t leak out and that we were able to execute the trade in a way that still was surprising to all the parties involved.
