It didn\u2019t help that Carpenter missed more than two weeks with an upper-body injury. With Carpenter out the past four games, the Sirens had to be even more diligent with their execution.<\/p>\n
But that\u2019s not what happened.<\/p>\n
Instead, the star\u2019s absence showed that the Sirens are in dire need of more secondary scoring and better defense.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou quickly realize how big of a hole Alex leaves when she\u2019s out of the lineup, too, and just about every situation that your team relies on her,\u201d Fargo said.<\/p>\n
New York was outscored 16-4 in its four losses without Carpenter.<\/p>\n
Wednesday\u2019s game wasn\u2019t much better.<\/p>\n
Toronto outshot New York 33-24, and Carpenter, the team\u2019s leading goal scorer, was the only Sirens player to find the back of the net.<\/p>\n
It resulted in a somber locker room environment.<\/p>\n
\u201cObviously no one\u2019s happy,\u201d defender and captain Micah Zandee-Hart said. \u201cLike [Fargo] said, everyone wants to win. We all want to find solutions.\u201d<\/p>\n
