Now I go out there and play with confidence and play my game. I think that’s been the biggest part this season.”

Not just this season, but the past six weeks in particular.

Holmstrom — who missed some games with injury over that span — came into Tuesday with 14 points in his past 15 games dating back to mid-December.

He did not have a point in the Islanders’ win on Tuesday night.

In 46 games this season, Holmstrom has scored more points than he did in 75 a year ago, and he looks like a threat to reach 20 goals for the first time.

The way Holmstrom got back into form right away coming off the injury also stood out in contrast to other Islanders who have been hurt this season.

He scored in his second game back and has averaged nearly a point per game over eight contests since returning.

For an Islanders team that lacks scoring depth, this was a crucial next step for the 23-year-old Swede to make.

“I think when you play more, you get more ice time, you get a couple goals in and a couple points, it definitely helps,” Holmstrom said. “Just the confidence level, I think, is the biggest thing. I think that’s been the biggest reason [for] this season.”

For Holmstrom to eventually crack the top six, he still needs to assert himself offensively a little more — yes, it would still be nice for him to shoot the puck more often — but he’s turned himself into a key part of the team’s third line and built a strong rapport with Jean-Gabriel Pageau.

“Experience, that’s all,” coach Patrick Roy said. “I think he’s learning the league more. I think he takes advantage of it. He knows the league. Sometimes it’s just time. I think in his case, experience makes a big difference.”

Ilya Sorokin was back in nets for the Islanders after sitting out Sunday’s game at Florida and had 33 saves in Tuesday’s win.

Hudson Fasching (upper body) was on the ice for morning skate, evidently having finished a conditioning stint with AHL Bridgeport.

Summarize this content to 2000 words in 6 paragraphs in Arabic During his first two NHL seasons, Simon Holmstrom used to catch himself overthinking things on the ice.
