I just wanted to get out in front of it,\u201d he said on his \u201cBoomer and Gio\u201d show, with his predicted time of signing coming five minutes after his show goes off the air.<\/p>\n<p>The franchise offered the slugger a three-year deal in the $68-70 million range, according to The Post\u2019s Joel Sherman \u2014 a far cry from the seven-year, $158 million contract he was offered in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, the forces have seemingly conspired against Alonso, with the 30-year-old\u2019s free agency coming at the worst possible time for him.<\/p>\n<p>Despite his flagging offense \u2014 his WAR dropped for a third straight season to a career full-season low 2.9 \u2014 Esiason is still all-in on Alonso coming back to Queens, even if the Reds, Angels and Giants are circling, as The Post\u2019s Jon Heyman reports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a diehard Met fan myself, I want the guy at first base, I want him in the lineup,\u201d he said. \u201cSteve Cohen has done a lot of great things for us since he\u2019s taken over ownership of the team and this would be another one. This would be another nice, little present for us as I believe, hopefully they\u2019ll come to an agreement today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Esiason is prepared, however, if his prognostication powers happen to be a little off.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverybody just pump the breaks for five seconds.
